Mil-Spec & Defense Materials
TLC products are made from high-performance materials proven to be reliable in defense applications. Laminations can be made from many Mil-Spec-grade materials to fulfill application-specific performance requirements:
- Silicon Steel. Also known as electrical steel, this material is used to manufacture reliable motor magnetic cores. We work with many grades of silicon steel (M15 to M45), in thicknesses ranging from 0.014 in. to 0.025 in.
- Thin-Gage Electrical Steel Alloys. Thin-gage alloys, between 0.003 in. and 0.010 in. thick, achieve enhanced mechanical and magnetic properties.
- Nickel-Based Alloys. These alloys provide high permeability and low core losses in low to moderate induction environments. We offer laminations in thicknesses ranging from 0.004 in. to 0.020 in.
- Cobalt-Based Alloys. The use of cobalt-based alloys improves heat, wear, and corrosion resistance. We work with several types of cobalt-iron alloys, in thicknesses ranging from 0.004 in. to 0.020 in.
These materials perform dependably within many harsh defense industry environments. When combined with optional coatings, it’s possible to further enhance device performance. We offer epoxy powder coating for insulating electric motor components, as well as oxide coating options for added protection.
ITAR Compliance and Certifications
TLC creates lamination components that meet critical defense industry regulations. Our certifications for the defense industry include:
- ITAR and DFARS Regulations. ITAR compliance is essential for protecting national security. We fully adhere to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) to guarantee safe handling of all defense-related information and materials.
- AS9100 and NADCAP Certifications. Thomson Lamination Company is NADCAP certified for heat treating and welding. We also maintain AS9100 certifications, ensuring the safety and quality of aerospace products.
Quality Standards and Traceability
As a trusted defense motor core manufacturer, TLC adheres to rigorous quality standards. Our inspection capabilities verify that all products meet the highest level of quality. We use advanced equipment, like coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and optical measuring machines, to check that products fall within tight +/-0.0001 in. tolerances. We also use thorough tracking systems to document every material and process involved in our projects. With advanced technology and an industry-leading commitment to quality, we ensure every product meets your specifications.
